Carnegie Speech: Software Engineer – Server Application developer

Carnegie Speech, an early stage spin-off out of Carnegie Mellon University, is seeking talented professionals as part-time/full-time additions to its Software Development Team. Carnegie Speech develops software to assess and improve the pronunciation of non-native English speakers. The products use speech recognition and intelligent tutoring technologies along with patent-pending pinpointing capabilities to deliver effective assessment and pronunciation training and remediation for non-native English Speakers.

The Software Engineers will be responsible for helping to make this software work with a web-hosted database. The Web-hosted database will provide lessons to a local application, and the local application will put the student’s results into the same web-hosted database.

The candidates for this position will be working on the server side and the ideal candidates for this position will possess the following experience:

  • At least 2-3 years programming in PHP
  • At least 2-3 years working with a SQL database.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl/Python
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering Principles, including testing and design
