General Dynamics C4 Systems/Viz: Senior Software Quality Engineer (S07-6318)

We are looking for experienced software quality engineer to work on testing complex, mission-critical applications. Candidate will participate in development, planning, documentation, and execution of test strategies, test plans, reports & metrics for company projects and products. Passion for QA, excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills are required.

7+ year’s development/testing experience with Java (preferred) or c++. Understanding of object-oriented programming, familiarity with testing methodology and processes. Ability to learn on a fly and feel comfortable in a fast-paced rapid-development environment. A basic understanding of some of the following areas, with advanced understanding and a minimum of one year’s experience in at least two areas:

  • Manual Testing (White/Gray Box)
  • GUI Testing for performance and memory usage
  • Basic scripting(Perl, Windows Batch Scripting, Unix shell scripting)
  • Bug tracking and metrics (Rational clearQuest/Bugzilla preferred)
  • Java programming and tuning
  • Configuration Management and version control
  • Test automation software (e.g. WinRunner, LoadRunner, Silk, TestDirector)
  • Coverage and leak testing (OptimizeIt preferred)
  • Build and Release systems (Ant preferred).

Demonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutions. Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups within a project and across a single engineering dept. Travel to customers/suppliers may be required. Participates well in team projects and interacts well with others to produce positive group results. Fundamental Duties

Description of Principal Duties: The employee will work as a Systems Designer (programmer / software engineer) in support of the Principal Systems Designer, the Research Team, and the Chief Scientist in the development of new technologies, in the evaluation and extension of existing technologies, in the creation of new intellectual property, and in the building of prototypes. Job Description

Participate in all phases of system design for the development of the Command Post of the Future (CPOF) system. Includes supporting the development of Operational Concept Models, derivation and definition of high and low level system requirements to support Battle Command systems, and providing software and test support during the software and test phase of the project. Provide support of Army C4ISR and Battle Command business pursuits as they apply to CPOF. Apply knowledge from a broad range of engineering disciplines to develop system solutions. Work with customers, users, and project teams to define, analyze and meet customer needs. Provide leadership and expertise in applying systematic processes to trade study, analysis, design, implementation, integration and test activities. This position involves some business development, project managment and systems engineering skills.

BS Degree in a technical field related to systems engineering + 7 years demonstrated results, or equivalent experience, advanced degree recommended.

  • Experience in software development including exposure to C, C++, and Java.
  • Experience in systems engineering artifact generation (system requirements, systems design) and tools.
  • Experience with UML.
  • Understanding of the entire life cycle of a software project
  • Understanding of service based architectures

Must also be able to work with little to no supervision and be capable of leading small technical teams. Must also possess excellent communication skills and be capable of presenting technical concepts in easy to understand terms to large audiences. Exposure to currently deployed Army systems is desired. Knowledge of Future Combat Systems program is also a plus. Knowledge of C4ISR systems in general is also desired.

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
