Silicon Valley it ain't (for one thing, we have actual weather), but the Pittsburgh high-tech community does have its own style. With Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and the Software Engineering Institute in close proximity, Pittsburgh has a tendency to unleash new and interesting ideas upon an unsuspecting world with a startling frequency...
What follows is a (by no means complete) listing of some of the high-technology companies residing in and about our fair city. What exactly constitutes a high-tech company, you might ask? We have several stringent criteria, which we generally ignore in favor of the more inclusive rule, "Any company that has had folks show up at Geek Night." If you're interested in a more comprehensive listing, you can try the Pittsburgh Technology Council, or Three Rivers Free Net.
