Why we will not send your announcement to our mailing list.

We receive two or three requests a week to send announcements to our mailing list. Some of the announcements are for genuinely cool events, that we would really like to tell people about. Some of the announcements are incredibly lame. Most of them fall somewhere in-between.

The one thing they all have in common is that nobody on our mailing list asked to see any of them.

Spam has become such a widespread problem that many people are very easily upset at receiving any email they haven't specifically asked for. We tend to agree with those people. (See spam.abuse.net for discussion of why Spam Is Bad, as well as practical tools for blocking spam.)

When people sign up for our mailing list, we promise them that they will not receive anything but reminders for our events. A lot of the people on our list are our friends. They know where we live. Basically, we'd rather irritate you than them.

So, we are sorry, but no, we will not send your announcement to our list, no matter how much we like you, your organization, or your event. We do plan to eventually have an event calendar on our website, but not in the immediate future. Watch this space.
